Your council tax is going up!
Wiltshire Council met earlier this week to agree the 2023/24 council tax.
The meeting ran from 10.30 into the evening and all budget amendments were lost - no surprise as the Conservatives have a large majority and the 'whip' was on them.
Your WC council tax will be increasing by 4.99%, 2% of this being for adult care.
In addition, the police precept will increase as will the fire and rescue service.
If you live in Hilperton your parish council precept will NOT increase - but if you live in Trowbridge you will have a 10% increase on top of the 20% increase last year; which I was sure they promised would be a 'three year' increase. Hilperton PC had a 0% increase last year.
My personal opinion was that Hilperton PC needed an increase a) because of inflation, and b) to increase the budgeted allowance for legal costs to fight the WC Local Plan when it gets to the public inquiry stage. However, my proposal was rejected at the parish council meeting.
