Wiltshire Council news from Ernie Clark.

Wiltshire Council (WC) has confirmed that the Local Plan will be discussed at the July cabinet meeting and the July meeting of full council. There will be a couple of briefings for WC councillors before it is published.

WC has still not published the new ‘5 year housing land supply’ (5YHLS) figure. However, the figure has been provided to a planning inspector and, so it would seem, it is still just below the ‘magic’ five year figure. This would mean that ‘planning anarchy’ will continue in Wiltshire with applications being made for development on plots of land which have never, previously, even been ‘offered’ for development by the owners.

As mentioned previously, the ‘lack’ of the up to date 5YHLS figure has a huge bearing on whether the Hilperton Neighbourhood Development Plan has ‘full’ status or not.

Footpath HILP8 (through the Bellway Housing development) will be temporarily closed from 1st July until 1st January 2024. Work has already commenced on the site clearing hedges which the developers state have no nesting birds in them. Of course, if nesting birds are present then an offence is committed if they are disturbed.

Also closed for several months will be the B3105 through Staverton. The closure will commence on 26th July and run for about five months! The closure will be between the railway bridge and the river bridge. This is to allow Wessex Water to install various new piping and to resurface the road.

WC has now announced that the new Trowbridge Leisure facility will be based on the East Wing area opposite County Hall.

Finally, Barratt Developments is going to hold a public presentation of plans for 160 – 180 houses in Hilperton Marsh. The presentation will be in the bar area at Hilperton Village Hall on 13th June running from late afternoon to early evening.
