Wiltshire Council has agreed the final draft of the Local Plan. It is now available to view on-line and the formal consultation, lasting six weeks, should commence at the end of September. The proposed housing allocation for Hilperton has dropped from 2,000 houses to 600 but ‘the devil is in the detail’.
The planning applications for a McDonald’s 24/7 drive-thru near the rugby club have caused a considerable amount of interest. A public meeting will be held at the village hall on Tuesday 1st August at 6.00pm. This will then be followed by an extraordinary meeting of the parish council. I have ‘called in’ all four applications (3 x advert, plus 1 x actual building). This means that the applications can be refused by the case officer but NOT permitted. If his opinion is for ‘permission’ then the applications have to go before a planning committee comprised of elected councillors.
In case you haven’t tried to drive through Staverton in the last few days please remember that the B3105 is closed until December. In addition, Church Street, Hilperton will be closed outside Church Farm on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of September!
Work is hoped to commence in the next few months on the next stage of the Trowbridge – Melksham cycle path. This will see Trowbridge Road ‘narrowed’ for vehicles but with the ‘pavement’ widened to allow cyclists and pedestrians to share it. As part of this scheme, Devizes Road should be blocked to through motor vehicles at the Stourton Park mini roundabout.
