August is ‘supposed’ to be a quiet month at Wiltshire Council – but not this year.
I am sure you are all aware of the various McDonald’s planning applications for a 24/7 site near the rugby club. If you are not, but wish to comment on the applications, please go to the WC planning portal; you are still in time to comment. If the case officer is minded to permit the applications they will go before a WC planning committee. The date is not yet known as there are several parts of the applications where WC needs more information.
The issue of closing Devizes Road to through motorized traffic is currently being consulted on. Your comments are needed by mid-September. Trowbridge Road is due to see the pavement widened for use as a dual-use cycle/footpath and the road reduced in width with a 20mph speed limit imposed. This will, of course, see the current footpath resurfaced thus getting rid of the current very poor surface.
The ‘new’ cycle route to Semington has seen plenty of press/TV coverage following the car accident a week or so ago. Both myself, and the WC member for Semington, have advised WC of our thoughts as has Semington PC. Hilperton PC will consider the current situation at an extraordinary meeting and pass its thoughts to WC.
Please don’t forget that Church Street, by the new Church Farm housing development, will be closed to traffic on 6th, 7th, and 8th of September.
There will be a public meeting to consider the revised draft Local Plan at the village Hall on Wednesday 27th September from 7.00pm.
