Armed forces council tax rebate.
The government has announced a rebate for military personnel.
According to the BBC, this will be paid by the MoD.
Our customers may have learned from the news this morning that a 'Council Tax rebate of £140.00' is being proposed for military personnel serving a 6 month tour of duty. WWDC have a number of serving military personnel residing in the area and they will no doubt want some information on how to claim that.
We are not aware of any proposal that indicates this 'rebate' will be managed or paid by the Council nor have we received any consultation documentation. We have checked the web sites that would normally have details of such changes and have not been able to find anything.
Councils do not have details of service personnel living in the area, nor do we have details of those serving 6 months tour of duty. It is therefore possible that this 'rebate' is to be paid directly by the MOD.
We experienced a similar situation when the budget announcement regarding 'Council tax rebates for pensioners' was reported. It was subsequently learned that payment was to be made directly by the DWP.
