News from Ernie Clark.

Hopefully, the next few weeks will see a sunny, rather than wet, end to spring!

The Experimental Traffic Regulation Order for the two by-ways are due to be advertised on 3rd May and implemented on 20th May. This will see motorised vehicles banned from using them unless access is needed to adjoining fields. It will be an offence to dis-regard the ETRO and it will be enforced, so I’m advised, by means of covert cameras – the by-ways cannot be physically blocked as access has to be maintained for horse-drawn carriages!!

As part of the on-going ‘cycle path’ between Trowbridge and Melksham, Trowbridge Road is going to be narrowed and the pavement widened. The road will be closed (again) between 3rd June and 5th July. Following this, the work will move to Devizes Road and installation of the ‘closure point’ by the Stourton Park mini-roundabout. Funding for these projects is coming from central government, not Wiltshire Council (WC).

Whilst on the topic of road closures, WC will be working to resurface the B3105 from Tuesday 7th May to Friday 31st May. The road will be closed at night and the work will be in three phases. Full details are on my web site.

Things are quiet on the Local Plan currently. WC is due to publish the ‘Inspection version’ of the plan within the next few months. It will be interesting to see what is proposed for Hilperton over the next twenty years. It will also be intriguing to see what ideas the major landowners are hoping to get away with, and what ‘philanthropic feelings’ are behind their ideas for, presumably, several thousand houses on green-field land.

On a totally different topic, the bell ringers at St. Michael’s Church, in The Knapp, are looking for a few new ringers. BTW, you don’t have to be able to read music, or play any instrument, to ring church bells! If you are interested, please contact me.
