Thanks to those who have raised various issues.

The following replies have been received from a WC highways engineer.

1.  Why does the new track seem to ‘end’ just after the bus stop on the northern side of the road?

From that point, cyclists must rejoin the carriageway as there is insufficient space to widen the footway to continue the shared use path toward the roundabout. A dropped kerb is provided to allow cyclists to easily move from the SUP to the road.

2.  What purpose does the short section of cycle track at the western end of the road serve?  It has narrowed the road to only one lane at the roundabout and what purpose does the track serve as cycles are supposed to be on the shared path on the northern edge of the road.

This is provided for cyclists who are travelling on road toward the Fieldways roundabout/Elizabeth Way. Rather than crossing Trowbridge Road to access the point where the shared use path starts/ends near the bus stop, they can continue on carriageway to this point then use the central island to cross without having to navigate the roundabout to then continue their journey down or across Elizabeth Way. Active Travel England are particularly keen that access provision across roads to cycle facilities is catered for with crossing facilities such as this.

3.  Will the trees etc. on the northern edge of the road be cut-back to allow the new streetlights to actually light the road/pavement rather than being shaded?

Some vegetation cutting back has taken place to allow the streetlights to be repositioned further back. If more needs to be cut back then I will arrange for this to happen.

4.  Will the greenery be cut back on the approach to the re-sited SID post?

Yes, I can arrange for this to take place.
