It would seem that travellers are NOT involved.

My thanks to a local resident who has provided the following information.

"I have managed to speak to the owner of the land this morning, ********** who lives locally and owns a construction company.

He has bought the land and is going to store his vehicles, plant and equipment on the site.

He is applying for planning permission to have a dropped kerb access point off the roundabout.

I hope this answers questions that many residents have been worried about."

When the parish council made an enquiry to the Land Registry, the land was still registered to Gallagher Estates and Heron Land.  So, many, many thanks to the resident who has found out more than the parish council could a week or so ago.
