News from Ernie Clark.

With the new government in place, there is a steady stream of news regarding future housing plans for the country.

What affect this might be having on the draft Wiltshire Council (WC) Local Plan only the planning officers know. The ‘inspection’ version should be released towards the end of September. The Hilperton Area Action Group (HAAG), a working group of the parish council, is considering what action to take but, until the ‘inspection’ copy is made public, it is a case of guessing what might be published. A very uncertain time for Hilperton, and many other parishes too.

Hilperton needs new houses, but surely not the thousands originally planned by WC in an earlier version of their plan.

WC is continuing the government-funded work on the Trowbridge – Melksham cycle way. Trowbridge Road has been narrowed, to allow a widened cycle/foot path, whilst Devizes Road has been closed to through motorized traffic.

The by-way next to the rugby club continues to be illegally used by motor vehicles but I know that the police are visiting motorists ‘caught using it.

Please remember that the play area at the rugby club is open to the public – you do NOT have to be a member of TRFC to use the facilities. Of course, the parish council funded play area at the village hall is also available for all to use.

The Parish Steward does not visit during August as all the stewards are on weed-killing duties. His next visit to Hilperton will be in early September.
