It was dry yesterday which has seen much of the network improve, but we still have pockets of water rising issues which we continue to monitor.
Our focus has been on traffic management and recovery where possible for Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Chippenham.
Whilst rain could be heavy in places, all the advice from our partners is that we should not see a repeat of the weekend.
We have now entered recovery and so have communities, with associated waste challenges. Our advice for households and businesses with flood damaged carpets and furniture is to check with their insurance company before arranging any disposal as they may need to assess damage first and may be able to offer assistance.
Residents with items to dispose of can use our household recycling centres which are open as usual, visit our website for locations and opening times. Alternatively, residents can book a bulky waste collections service by calling 0300 456 0102. Please do not store waste on the roadside until your booked collection day.
Business waste will need to be disposed of via their normal collection provider.
Weather Forecast. Wednesday: A damp start to the morning, but then slowly turning drier and brighter from the west as the day progresses. Remaining on the chilly side, with winds falling light. Maximum temperature 9 °C. Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Often cloudy, with the best of any sunshine in the east. Some rain is possible in the west at times, and turning milder into the weekend.
Flood warnings and alerts. At the time of writing there are 13 flood warnings in place, down from 25. Please continue to keep an eye on the Government’s flood alerts and warnings webpage for the latest. Please also encourage people to sign up for flood warnings and visit their page for more advice on what do when warnings/alerts are in place.
Our teams will continue to work throughout the county to try and resolve any issues reported to us – clearing debris, grips and gully grates and deploying gully tankers where required.
Road closures. We continue to keep our webpage with advice and the latest road closures as up to date as possible, but please be aware that this is a changing situation. There may be other roads, particularly side roads and smaller roads, that are experiencing flooding in the county.
Advice. Our advice to residents continues to be to take note of any signage, to not attempt to drive through flood water and to allow extra time for their journeys. Residents should follow the advice given from emergency services and the council.
Further information and useful links. We’ll keep our flooding webpage as up to date as possible and will continue to post regular updates on our Facebook and X feeds. Local community Facebook pages such as the Spotted-type pages have also been regularly updated by residents throughout the day.
