Council receives initial Local Plan Inspectors’ letter.

Wiltshire Council has received a letter from the Planning Inspectors that have been appointed by the Secretary of State to conduct the examination of the Wiltshire Local Plan Review 2020-2038.

The letter sets out the Inspectors’ thoughts on the next stages of the process and asks for further information from the council.

The letter asks several questions of the council, covering areas such as highways, national policy, housing needs for different groups and retail evidence. It gives the council three weeks from the date of the letter, Thursday 27 February, to respond.

Parvis Khansari, Corporate Director – Place, said: “We submitted our Local Plan to the Secretary of State for examination in November 2024. The examination process assesses whether the plan has been prepared in accordance with legal and procedural requirements and if it meets the statutory test of soundness.

“As part of this process, the Inspectors often ask initial questions of Local Planning Authorities and seek clarification on certain points. This letter is a normal part of the examination process and our response will be published in due course.

“The timing for the public hearing sessions, during which there will be an opportunity for anyone who made comments through the consultation to be involved, is not yet known and there will be more information about this in the coming months.”
