All change on April Fools Day 2009.
Wiltshire Council will begin life on April 1st 2009, at which point the district councils will cease to exist. There seems to be a delicious irony in choosing this date, which is lost on the would be 'top table' at the new authority.

The transition will be overseen by a cabinet consisting of fifteen Conservatives, one Liberal Democrat and one Labour councillor, with WCC leader Jane Scott as its chairman.

All councillors (both District and County)except those on the transition cabinet become redundant on March 31st 2009, so try not to need any help from a councillor during April and early May as you won't have a councillor to represent you.

Elections to the WC (sic) will take place on the first Thursday of May 2009.

The next round of parish council elections will take place in May 2013, so existing parish councillors have a six year term instead of the normal four.
