What was the cause?
Yesterday's fire was, without doubt, one of the most serious physical events to hit Hilperton in recent years.
Although crops were lost there were no injuries to either the public or the fire fighters. In addition, no homes were lost although some gardens came very close!!
Various rumours are around as to what/who caused the conflagration, but please don't speculate - allow the enquiries by the fire service (or whoever) to proceed.
After seeing the fire service in action yesterday, would anyone query if D&WFRS increased their precept by £5 a year? When I served on the fire service board some years ago we kept suggesting this but it was always blocked - normally, as I recall, by the government of the day. It would certainly help ensure that equipment is kept fully up to date, and would also ensure that fire stations remain open!
