Save Broughton Gifford Post Office.
The campaign continues...
The aim is to demonstrate the importance of the Post Office for the village and the difficulty for people in having to travel to Holt (the Post Office nominated 'receiving office'). A good turn-out of villagers would be very helpful to the cause.
West Wiltshire District Council's scrutiny committee has resolved to oppose the Post Office's plans for closing Wiltshire branches. The impact on older people was highlighted as a cause for concern, as was the fact that closures will mean more people driving to more distant post offices, in contradiction to government policy.
As well as the general rejection of the concept of continuing closure the committee also encouraged councillors to continue to oppose individual post office closures, and offered to help any local campaigns in gathering evidence to submit as part of the consultation process.
As previously advised, the consultation period ends on 31 January.

As there is little purpose to be served in running two 'save our post office' campaigns I am happy to endorse Duncan's effort and have added my name and comments to his petition!
