Staverton, Blacklands decision deferred
The Blacklands application was deferred for a site visit to allow committee members to understand the relationship between 'old' and 'new' Staverton, and see how this development will impact on both. Also, committee members will see some of the problems at existing parts of the Marina development, particularly parking.

WWDC Officers have also been told to ascertain whether the Holt-Staverton cycle track can be integrated with the new development.

The George Ward application was refused on the grounds of loss of recreation provision for the local area and the fact that the housing would diminish the open space between Shaw and Melksham.

Wiltshire County Council had assumed that because most people support the new school project the community would be happy to accept this housing development, even though the application was inappropriate by 'normal' policy standards.

The planning committee made clear that a smaller scheme using the footprint of the existing school buildings would probably be acceptable.

WCC now has three options: 1) To produce a revised scheme. 2) To appeal against the decision. 3)Wait until May 2009 when the Unitary Authority probably comes into being. Then it (the new authority) will presumably give itself planning permission. Democratic?? I don't think so!
