Waterside project receives planning consent.
Green light for first phase of the development.
The following press release has been made by WWDC.
"The District Council’s planning committee meeting gave consent for the construction of the new library and office development on 6 March after considering detailed plans. It is anticipated that developers Modus will commence work in September with the new library opening during 2009.
Councillor Michael Mounde, West Wiltshire District Council’s portfolio holder for the economy, said: “I am delighted with this consent and congratulate Modus with the progress they have made. It is another stepping stone achieved towards making Trowbridge the county town that its residents and the rest of Wiltshire deserve.”
Councillor Fleur de Rhe-Philipe, Wiltshire County Council’s cabinet member for environment, transport and economic development, said: “The granting of planning permission is a significant step forward for this major project. We shall now be working with our partners to ensure this exciting scheme becomes a reality as soon as possible.”
Jamie Bunce, scheme development manager for Modus, said: "We are delighted to have been granted planning permission for the Waterside Trowbridge development, and having now signed Vue Cinemas we are looking forward to moving this exciting scheme onto site this summer."
In December last year Wiltshire County Council, West Wiltshire District Council and developer Modus signed the development agreement for the £90 million project. The Waterside project aims to breathe new life into seven acres of land along the River Biss with the creation of an eight screen multiplex cinema, bowling alley, restaurants and other leisure uses, new library, offices and high-quality apartments.
The proposed development will be built on land that is currently part of the County Hall complex, including Trowbridge library, which is owned by the county council, together with Court Street car park, owned by the district council."
Personally, I can't wait to see a tower crane or two on the Trowbridge sky-line just to convince people that something is finally happening in the town!
