Are speed camara vans a revenue exercise, or do they work?
The following is part of a report from the police about speed enforcement in Hilperton.

Speed statistics relating to Marsh Road. Confirmed information from the Safety Camera Partnership. Marsh Road remains one of the 'core sites' of which there are about 100 in Wiltshire. Accordingly, it continues to get regular attention.

A core site is determined by the rate of fatal and serious injury collisions as set by the Department of Transport. The most recent 7 day survey showed the average speed has fallen to 31.7 mph. In addition the 85th percentile (the top 15% speed results) also shows a fall from 39 mph to 36.7 mph. (35 mph at the 85th percentile is considered normal).

The survey prior to the speed checks showed that 74% of all vehicles were exceeding the limit. After the speed check this had reduced to 'only' 52.4%.

During the 3 years prior to the establishment of the site there were 5 injury collisions of which 2 were either fatal or serious. In the last 3 years since the site was establihed there have only been 2 slight injury collisions recorded as occurring within its length.

Details of this site, including pictures of the approaches to it, and maps of the area covered can be found on the web site at drive safely link On the 'Home Page' click on the "camera site search" button, then enter Hilperton in the search field.

Please remember that if you stick to the speed limit then you have nothing to fear, and local children will be that little bit safer.
