Sunday June 01, 2008 Why play politics with planning decisions?

Why do the Lib Dems have to politicise everything?
In his report on the refusal of planning permission for 190 houses in Paxcroft Mead, Cllr. Carbin just can't resist playing the 'political party' card. Reading his report, one could be forgiven for thinking that the only councillors who spoke last Thursday were Lib Dems.

I realise that, as the party pays for his newsletters and election pamphlets (and web site?), they will expect 'pay back' - but is this really the way to do it?

To put the record straight, Trevor 'forgets' to mention that the Conservative county councillor for the area (Peter Fuller) spoke aginst the application, as did Conservative district councillor Virginia Fortescue who represents Steeple Ashton.

Mysteriously, he also omits to mention my speech of objection, my (accepted) suggestion of an amemndment to the proposal and the fact that he and I have a 'gentlemen's agreement' to alternate who 'proposes' and who 'seconds' motions for debate concerning Hilperton and Avonside ward.

Still, I guess that if you choose to stand under a political party banner, then telling the whole story about important local matters comes second to political 'point scoring'.
