Stonehenge to 'Fly the Flag' today.
Olmpic handover to be marked at 4 o'clock.
WCC has issued the following press release. Of course, if you think that the Olympics are a waste of money you might not be as upbeat as WCC is...
"The Olympic handover flag at Stonehenge will be one of over 500 flags delivered to locations including HM Armed Forces, embassies around the world, City Halls, British Council offices and Foreign and Commonwealth offices, and one of a number around Wiltshire.
It is particularly appropriate that one of Wiltshire's Olympic handover flags is being displayed at Stonehenge, as the World Heritage Site was one of the locations that featured in the launch of Britain's original bid. The Government has also initiated a project to give Stonehenge a new visitor centre in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. The consultation on these plans is currently underway, and closes on October 17, 2008.
Mary Douglas, Wiltshire County Council cabinet member for culture will be on hand, along with visitors to Stonehenge, to celebrate the moment when London becomes the official Olympic Games host city for the 2012 Games.
A flag will be also be flown outside County Hall, Trowbridge."
