More records move to the new Chippenham centre.
Wiltshire County Council is transferring the registers of every birth, death and marriage in Wiltshire since 1837 that are currently held across the county, in Warminster, Trowbridge, Devizes, Chippenham and Salisbury.

During the next three weeks 185 crates of registers and indexes will be moved to their new home in Chippenham where a new dedicated certificate copying service team has been set up.

The move will enable the records to be stored in one place, which will be of particular benefit to people visiting the history centre to trace their family's past. This will also enable the registration service to take advantage of the state-of-the-art storage facilities at the centre.

However, during the transfer it is expected that there will be some delays for people who want copies of any of these record. It is anticipated normal service will resume on September 22. The express service currently operating from the Salisbury registration office will also be suspended between September 5 and October 5.

People wanting to contact the registration service during this period should continue to call 01225 713007.
