Who wants to be a councillor on the new unitary council?
The event is aimed at anyone who is considering standing for election to the new council and will take place at County Hall, Trowbridge starting at 10.00am. The focus will be on what it will be like to be a councillor in the new unitary council.

The programme includes internal and external speakers, plus partners, and will feature a 'market place' which will enable delegates to meet, amongst others, support staff and private agencies.

For further details and to reserve a place please contact: John Quinton on 01225 713054 or email him at johnquinton@wiltshire.gov.uk

With two hundred (ish) 'party' councillors fighting for nomination to one of the new Divisions, I would suggest that the major parties have already decided (as near as makes no difference) who their candidates are going to be.

However, there is the oportunity to stand as an Independent if you wish. I would be more than happy to have a chat with anyone who fancies standing as an Independent (preferably not aginst me, though!). Please remember that, as an example, Kennet District Council has more Independent councillors than Lib Dems and Labour combined! An Independent councillor is not as rare a creature as the political parties would have you believe.
