Another improvement to our recycling service.
The updated phonebook for Bath is being distributed in West Wiltshire now. The change has come about because the company which takes paper for recycling from Wiltshire can now accept Yellow Pages.

Paper collected through the black box service is sent to Aylesford Newsprint in Kent who turn the material into premium grade newsprint. Previously, the inks in Yellow Pages reduced the quality of the paper but the production process has now changed. It means Aylesford can now accept the telephone directories.

As well as putting Yellow Pages in the kerbside black boxes people can also use the paper recycling banks at the houusehold recycling centres. The move will not affect the Yell Woods challenge which rewards schools for sending in unwanted Yellow Pages - it just gives people in west Wiltshire another option for recycling.

Martin Litherland, waste contracts and development manager at Wiltshire County Council, said: "Your kerbside black box can take everything from tin cans to foil, paper to empty aerosol cans and glass jars and bottles to textiles. Now we've added Yellow Pages to that list.

"We know there is real enthusiasm in Wiltshire for people to do their bit to help the environment. That's why we're always looking for new ways we can provide recycling services for residents."

This is the latest expansion of recycling services in the county. In August the ten household recycling centres began accepting beverage cartons.

If you want to see how the paper which is sent for recycling from Wiltshire gets turned in to new products you can watch a film about it. It is one of eight short films which give information on how recycling in the county works.
