Local election to move to June 2009.
What a way to get more people voting at the European election!
The new date is, conveniently, the date of the European Parliamentary elections. It would seem that the government hopes that combining the two elections on the same day will get more people to vote in the European part of it - normally very few bother.
The decision to lay a draft Order which will move the date of the local elections has been made following careful consideration of all the representations received as part of a consultation. The Government has published a document summarising the responses it received and setting out the Government’s response to consultees representations, available
here.
