Have you got a grit bin? If so, use it!
Save your grit bin.
The bright yellow grit bins sit un-used at the roadside for year after year, just waiting for a cold snap to come along. They are usually placed where there's a slope on a road or pavement in a residential area. Any member of the public can spread the grit where it's needed when the freeze arrives.
However, apparently WCC will be checking all the bins when this cold snap is over and, working on the theory that any bin not used during this cold period isn't needed, it will never be used and so can be removed.
So, if there's a bin near you, and you want it to stay, grab a shovel and start spreading!
A word of warning however. Unless it's been used recently the contents have probably settled into am almost solid lump, so you may also need a pickaxe or a crowbar to break it up!
