WWDC is being re-organised again!

Tuesday August 16, 2005
In 2003, the District Council elections were fought under new boundaries. It would seem that the next ones (in 2007) will again have new Ward boundaries.

The review, under the banner of the government Boundary Committee, starts now with a so called consultation phase. During this anyone can say how they think the District should be divided up and how many councillors there should be.

Paxcroft Mead and Staverton residents may be in for a surprise.

Saturday August 13, 2005
Two planning applications lodged this week, may cause consternation to local residents.

This was the first of two high profile events in West Wiltshire.

Tuesday August 09, 2005
If you were one of the other 9,999 that managed to get a ticket for last Sunday, I'm sure that you will agree that the Red Bull event was well worth going to. For those that couldn't attend, an indication of how low the planes flew during the competiton, is the fact that one of the reasons for disqualification was "touching the ground/surface of the water"!! Personally, if I were the pilot of a plane that 'touched the ground' at 200+ mph I would be grateful to still be alive.

The delay in getting out was inevitable if you have 60,000 people at Longleat but, compared to many events, the time spent queuing was minimal.

A decision was reached regarding footpath #2 in Staverton.

Friday August 05, 2005
The only Paxcroft Ward matter on the agenda last night was for the diversion of a footpath, the route of which crosses land which Persimmon wishes to build on.

'Dissatisfied' seems to be the general view.

Thursday August 04, 2005
Wiltshire County Council services came under the spotlight in a People's Voice questionnaire.

Whether any notice will actually be taken of the result is doubtful. After all, our WCC councillors are now comfortably ensconced in County Hall for the next four years.

A 'great success' is claimed, but no cost figures are available.

Tuesday August 02, 2005
The press office at WWDC has released the following information, but no mention is made regarding the 'bottom line' cost to council tax payers.

Whilst the show is un-doubtedly enjoyed by many people (especially the fireworks display), it will be interesting to see how much WWDC staff time has been contributed to it, and at what cost.

There is only one Paxcroft Ward item on the agenda.

Monday August 01, 2005
Although Paxcroft has only the one item for consideration it is, as usual, at the end of the meeting.

This free show is held in Trowbridge town park.

Thursday July 28, 2005
The show celebrates everything that is good about west Wiltshire, and each of the five towns has their own marquee.

A special 'phone hotline will open Monday 25 July.

Sunday July 24, 2005
The hotline will help businesses and community halls take a first step towards applying for a licence, together with contact details at WWDC.

WWDC reached a decision on the PFI scheme last night.

Wednesday July 20, 2005
West Wiltshire Distirct Council decided last night to proceed with a "Private Finance Initiative" (PFI) scheme to build 400 homes for rent in the district. However, out of 44 elected councillors only 26 voted in favour of the scheme continuing.

A surprise Staverton decision.

Friday July 15, 2005
Last night the planning committee at WWDC were consistent in trying to ensure a 'proper' relief road system for the inhabitants east of Trowbridge.

A close vote on the Paxcroft Mead extension development.

Thursday July 14, 2005
A split vote of 5/5 saw the chairman having to use his casting vote against deferral.

Q. How many other people share this view? A. Lots.

Monday July 11, 2005
The following is an e-mail sent to me by a resident of Staverton. It raises some interesting points which, I hope, our County Councillor will take on board.

I have, of course, passed it onto Mr. Batten and Cllr. Content, as requested by the writer.

Exceptionally, there will be two meetings next week.

Wednesday July 06, 2005
Due to having to consider four major applications, as well as the 'usual' business, the WWDC planning committee will meet on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 July.

Both meetings will be held at the council offices in Bradley Road commencing at 7.00 pm.

Thursday June 30, 2005
At a meeting last night, Peter Mylchreest, Head of Network Change at the Post Office, seemed to offer the chance of a lifeline for a post office service in Hilperton village.

Another broken promise by the Royal Mail.

Tuesday June 28, 2005
Despite a promise by Royal Mail in late 2004, two out of three post boxes (from a survey of 2,600) have not had their collection tabs replaced.

Revaluation has now started in earnest.
