The following is an e-mail sent to me by a resident of Staverton. It raises some interesting points which, I hope, our County Councillor will take on board.

I have, of course, passed it onto Mr. Batten and Cllr. Content, as requested by the writer.

Exceptionally, there will be two meetings next week.

Due to having to consider four major applications, as well as the 'usual' business, the WWDC planning committee will meet on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 July.

Both meetings will be held at the council offices in Bradley Road commencing at 7.00 pm.

Paxcroft Mead Community Centre is holding a Party at the Centre on September 24th.

Mixed noises are coming from the Post Office Network people.

At a meeting last night, Peter Mylchreest, Head of Network Change at the Post Office, seemed to offer the chance of a lifeline for a post office service in Hilperton village.

Another broken promise by the Royal Mail.

Despite a promise by Royal Mail in late 2004, two out of three post boxes (from a survey of 2,600) have not had their collection tabs replaced.

Revaluation has now started in earnest.

The Valuation Office has advised that 6,800 Council Tax Questionnaires have been sent to charge payers in West Wiltshire.

Decisions were made on both Paxcroft Ward items, last night.

The Chairman of Staverton Parish Council (Lesley Warne) was kept waiting until past 10 o'clock to speak on the two Staverton items.

New legislation came into force on 01 June.

HIGH HEDGES: COMPLAINING TO THE COUNCIL. Part 8 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, which covers high hedges, came into force on 1st June 2005.

Staverton PC has arranged a visit by Peter Woodcock of WWDC.

Peter Woodcock, a senior officer at West Wiltshire Disrict Council, will give a presentation on re-cycling. Although aimed at Staverton residents, I am sure that all that turn up will be welcome.

Re-development plans have been lodged.

After a long wait, a formal planning application has now been lodged for Castle Place and the old Tesco site in Trowbridge.

Fellow Ward councillor Trevor Carbin is organising a petition regarding the loss of the 'village' Post Office (but don't forget that the office situated at Marsh Road garage is still open for business).

Few licensed premises have so far applied for new licenses.

If you live in Hilperton you are, no doubt, aware that the village store and Post Office in Church Street closed a week or so ago.

There is only one Paxcroft Ward item on the agenda.

Following the Annual Meetings in the three Paxcroft Ward parishes, there has been one change of Chairman. This was due to Angela Weston standing down in Semington.

With the election now behind us, the Government Office for the South West has finally made a decision about their view on the application to build a road across the Hilperton Gap.

West Wiltshire District Council's new Cabinet has been confirmed.

The new leader at WWDC has announced the following Cabinet positions.

They have, I am sure, been awarded on ability, and not as a reward for supporting the 'coup' on Wednesday evening. However, this is not always the case, as evidenced by a letter written by a Lib Dem councillor from Preston City "Cabinet roles should be seen for what they are: patronage in the gift of the majority leader, unrelated to ability, often discharged inadequately and unworthy to be rewarded from public funds."
